Pris Forrest
After leaving Edinburgh College of Art, having finished a Post-graduate year studying drawing, painting and printmaking, I eventually moved south, and thence to East Anglia. My work for a while was preoccupied with political violence and the inhumanities of war, reflecting my own mood at the time.
When I finally found myself living much nearer the coast, I started learning to sail, and discovered the watery mudflats and tidal mysteries of the river estuaries. This had a profound effect on my work, and has intrigued me ever since.
My latest explorations are about navigation, tides and the open sea, whose infinitely changeable surface hides threats as well as pleasures.
I have had both Group and Solo exhibitions in England, Scotland and on the continent, and belong to two exhibiting groups. I currently teach Drawing, Printmaking and Visual Studies at the Suffolk College in Ipswich, and have just built a new studio at my home in Little Glemham.
